In 1996 when the business started to focus more on corrosion control systems and acquired Alocit with its underwater coating capability, Simon worked with Barry to modify Alocit for use in a range of climates.
That project led to Simon developing more efficient application equipment which has resulted in significant cost reductions.
Working with the technical team at manufacturer West Senior he has also developed improved products including a standard grade and tropical grade Alocit.
Simon has been involved with a range of projects around the world from coating the lock gates on the Panama Canal to coating 20,000 sq m of sheet piles in Taiwan on a three-year project from the late 1990s to early 2000s and pile coatings in Vietnam.
His practical experience from working on projects all over the world in a variety of conditions from the arctic to the tropics has given Simon an intimate understanding of Alocit and Enviropeel products and the processes and equipment required to use them effectively.
He has been involved in practical applications using abseiling to subsea diving applications.
He played a key role in the development of the patented Enviropeel product and also holds a patent for the development of a riser clamp treatment for oil and gas industry applications.
Along with the Alocit Systems team, he has been responsible for training applicators all over the world, building a group of specialists capable of solving the most extreme corrosion issues.
That includes developing processes for the application of coatings to prevent corrosion in sweating pipes in the oil and gas industry.
Alocit Systems has also embraced the use of new communications technology, including Zoom, to efficiently reach out to remote locations. A Zoom conference was recently used as part of a training course for an organisation involving 12 centres around the world.
Syahrel has been involved with Alocit since April 2008.
A chemical engineering graduate from Clarkson University, New York, Syahrel worked closely with his mentor Barry who helped nurture his coatings knowledge.
Syahrel has been a NACE member since 2014.
He is actively involved in supervising Alocit projects and solving technical issues on site and is heavily involved in internal and external product testing.
Syahrel’s biggest current project is working closely with a blue-chip oil and gas company to get Alocit approved for underwater coating.
It is also his role to manage agents and provide sales and technical support.
Both Syahrel and Simon are heavily involved in the development and testing for Alocit’s new marine growth prevention product due for launch later this year that will include breakthrough nano technology particle inclusion.

While scientist Barry Windsor is no longer with us, he has left the technical side of Alocit’s business in capable hands.
Both Technical Director Simon Haycox and Group Material Technical Manager Syahrel Hashim have spent years working on solving corrosion issues around the world with Barry and say they owe much to his technical knowledge.
Simon has been with A&E Systems since even before manufacturing of the patented corrosion control process was transferred from Switzerland to the U.K. and has become a leading specialist in the use of thermoplastic polymers and underwater coatings.
