Alocit sheet piling ‘shiny as it was in 2004’
Based in Alabama in the United States, Commercial Diving Services Inc has used Alocit to coat more than 300,000 square feet of bulkhead sheet piling in the States of Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida.

President of Commercial Diving, Douglas Christopher, has been involved in commercial diving since 1979 and the company, involved in underwater construction, inspection, and video work, has been based in Alabama since 1997.
Commercial Diving coated the ancient Middle Bay Lighthouse, built in 1865, with Alocit 28:15.
They have been using Alocit since 2004 when they were approached by ship unloading and oilfield-related services business, Core Industries, in Theodore, AL.

Core had a 1700 linear feet sheet pile bulkhead installed with sheet piles that had an inferior, factory-applied coating.

Doug says they later discovered that the factory had supplied many jobs with inferior coated sheets.

Commercial Diving was asked to come up with an underwater coating that would protect the sheets in the splash zone area from four feet below to two feet above water level.

They tested several underwater coatings in a small tank in their shop but were told by a retired Corps of Engineers Compliance and Processes person that Alocit was a superior product.

“We ordered it in and tested in the same fashion as the others and found it was much easier to work with than anything we’d tried,” Doug says.

That trial led to Commercial Diving hiring Alocit International’s Technical Director, Simon Haycox to travel from the UK to the US to train, prepare the surface and apply Alocit.

The success of that project led to the recoating of inferior sheets from the same factory including Roatan Honduras, a seven-month project on a Carnival Cruise Line dock, a post Hurricane Katrina cut off wall coating for Corps of Engineers in Belle Chasse LA, Port of Panama City FL, and many more.

“These projects stand up to wear extremely well,” Doug says.

“The job we did for Core Industries in 2004 was just inspected in 2020 and the original coating is still as shiny as the day we installed it after you clean off the marine growth.

“We have been back a few times to repair collision damage areas, but with just normal wear the sheets coated with Alocit are still in amazingly good shape.”
