CASE STUDY
In the beautiful northern UK area of Cumbria, the structural steel and landings of this spiral staircase inside a Victorian valve tower were deteriorating badly. Alocit coatings were chosen because the steel is at dew-point throughout the year and was in urgent need of protection, but the wet substrate made preparation and coating very difficult.
Alocit’s high tolerance for surface water and contamination such as flash rusting, residual salts and oil were key to the success of this project. The system used was an Alocit 28.14 zinc primer stripe-coat followed by a full brush coat of 28.14 and a final brush coat of Alocit 28.15 in standard grey.

The surface was prepared by closed-circuit dustless vacuum blasting, minimising the risk of collateral damage to the structure and maximising coating adhesion.
