Alocit 28.95 and 28.15 were originally specified for the service tunnel of the Gornergrat-Bahn, a rack-railway in the Swiss Alps. Fifteen years later, Alocit products were chosen again because of their record of durability, outstanding adhesion and resistance to oil and other corrosive materials.

The service tunnel is cut
250 metres into the
mountainside and is used
for the maintenance of
trains and rolling stock as
well as for the storage of
materials. Its walls and
floors suffer from constant
exposure to moisture, dirt
and oil. Engine oil is
drained directly into
channels under the tracks
to be carried off to special
oil separators, but no part
of the tunnel escapes from
the contaminating effects
of this damp, subterranean
environment.
Alocit 28.95 was used as a primer because of its ability to adhere to oily and damp substrates, with 28.15 as the finishing coat. Surface preparation only required the removal of loose and flaky material by wire brush. After application, in this case by brush, the Gornergrat-Bahn was ready for at least another 20 years hard use.
